Lots of my projects start with Stampin’ Up!’s beautiful Designer Series Paper, so I decided to make them the feature of my first blog post for Stampin’ Up!
I set myself a challenge to use one main stamp set, the Lots of Lavender Stamp Set and the same basic layout to make three different cards. I chose three different papers and let the papers lead me.
The First Designer Series Paper…
My first card was a sweet and simple one, using the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Stack some Crumb Cake Card Stock and coordinating Crumb Cake Ink Pad and stamped on Shimmery White Card Stock. I love the Shimmery White card as a warmer white option.
The background paper was an Early Espresso colour so I used the coordinating Early Espresso Ink Pad to stamp the greeting. The embellishments were a flourish from the Petals & More Thinlit Dies in the same patterned papers, some Classic Weave Ribbon in Soft Sky and a piece of Mini Sequin Trim in Gold. The gold and sky colours complement the dark of the brown with the Crumb Cake edge just lifting it a little.
The Second Designer Series Paper…
The second card used the Bundle of Love Specialty Designer Series Papers as a background and the same Shimmery White card for stamping on. I also used a strip of the Petal Passion Designer Series Paper, along the edge. The lavender image was stamped using a Sahara Sand Ink Pad for the outline and then two-stepped stamped over with Powder Pink, Dapper Denim and Pear Pizzazz Ink Pads.
To embellish, I die cut a ‘lovely’ from the Lovely Words Thinlits in Shimmery White card. I then coloured it in with the Berry Burst Ink Pad and an Aqua Painter, making sure to lay the darker colour at the bottom. I used a flourish from the Flourish Thinlit Dies in Island Indigo Card Stock and some Shimmer Ribbon in Powder Pink. For the second card I let the Powder Pink background paper influence the stamping and embellishment and just contrasted with the striped edge and Island Indigo decorative strip.
The Third Designer Series Paper…
The third card was bolder, as I used the beautiful Whole Lot of Lovely Designer Series Papers striped paper as the background. I used a strip of Petal Passion DSP along one side again and stamped on Whisper White Card Stock. The image was stamped using Memento Black Ink and stamped over using Island Indigo, Crushed Curry and Blushing Bride Ink Pads, to coordinate with the background paper. I then used our Watercolour Pencils to darken parts of the flowers. The embellishments were a flourish in Island Indigo Card along one side of the image, and a chopped up greeting in Island Indigo Ink on the other side to balance it. I also popped up the Crushed Curry bow.
The greetings for the cards were all taken from Friendship’s Sweetest Thoughts Stamp Set and I used words from two different greetings to make up the third card.
I hope you’ll join in and try a paper challenge of your own. Just one main stamp set, one basic layout and three very different papers and see what you come up with! Why not share it with the hashtag #SU1to3paperchallenge so we can check it out and be inspired?
